Hamlet Minassian is more than just an excellent name - dude can get a groove together and all. Minassian’s 1979 LP Armenian Pop Music was recorded in Iran just before the country’s cultural sphere was decimated by Ayatollah Khomeni. These circumstances have made Armenian Pop Music a rather rare record, with this Numero Group pressing the first since the original run. It’s a record that deserves to be heard again, one that combines influences from Armenia and the Middle East with Western styles like funk and disco.
