Ernest Hood … Neighborhoods … you see what he’s done there. That said, this 1975 record really does reflect the sound of Hood’s home streets. With field recordings of Hood’s native Portland a cornerstone of Neighborhoods, an array of other instruments (synthesiser, zither, piano) are subsequently added to create these wistful reveries. Everyone from Laraaji to Angelo Badalamenti can be heard in Hood’s compositions. With original copies of Neighborhoods sparsely available Freedom To Spend have done the decent thing and got a reissue together.
