Roel Funcken hasn’t had his Quench hat on for a fair few years now - 2012’s Hallstreak Foles being the project’s last substantial release - but on Greyhound he proves that he hasn’t lost the knack. This is a set of melodious, spacious and welcoming IDM jams. There is a tranquility to the record’s slower cuts - ‘Formanter Jones’, for instance - which contrasts nicely with the slightly fraught tones and gurgling bass of something like ‘Martar Cosmone’. By the time we get to closer ‘Biva Vlance’ we’re in breakbeat mode. The proceeds from sales of the Greyhound EP will go to the charity HUG (Homes for Unwanted Greyhounds).
