Good Morning Tapes serves up a hot, black shot of dark roast blend ambient from UK synth act XVARR. Echoes of Time indeed recalls XVARR’s 2018 tape Serpent Power in its pure loveliness and emotive virtuosity, taking as its antecedents the early synth expeditions of Laurie Spiegel, as well as the full-blown romanticism of Eno’s pastoral landscapes. But don’t take this EP as mere period piece; it’s fuelled by a modern temperament redolent of Huerco S.’s irreverent clangour.
