World Building return to the back catalogue of Ed Marshall (Dreamscape, APLOMB) with a reissue of his 1996 tune ‘Wondering’. Originally released on a split with the mysterious Dr. Bean via Marshall’s own New Age House Records, this track is an off-kilter bit of jazz-tinged deep house. Beginning with some chanted vocals and seasick chords, ‘Wondering’ develops into a clattering melee of Latin-inspired drums and buoyant bass. Herbert’s contemporaneous efforts come to mind when listening to this one. First pressed in 1996 alongside Dr. Bean’s ‘Listen’ on New Age House Records, this 12” revives its looped soul and scat hooks, as a gradual beat builds from serene to clangorous funk, full of flip flopping bass goodness. This thing’s like a time capsule of a time gone by, yet still brilliantly innovative years later.
