To even think that Jai Paul’s CD-R only release Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones) is commercially available through XL Recordings feels somehow illicit, like reprinting a holy text in a schismatic and profane form, leaked as the original demos were by an anonymous source in 2013. But here we are, years later, with its wildly influential lead single ‘BTSTU’, made widely available (on vinyl, no less!). Originally ‘released’ in 2011, ‘BTSTU’ became a vanguard phenomenon, passing through the hands of the underground all the way to future big hitters (Drake) and global megastars (Beyoncé) alike. The OG track still bangs like nothing else.
