Monkey Formula is a new full-length that brings together primarily unreleased work by veteran producer and Rush Hour Records favourite Aardvarck. This is a sedate and cerebral collection of tracks, one that largely eschews the dancefloor for Balearic ambiences and downtempo breakbeat jams. The record shows a good deal of range within these parameters - ‘What U’ combines Detroit techno influences with weightless techniques; the chiming ‘U Are, When U Not Think’ comes close to Björk’s ‘Virus’; closer ‘Give’ is full of morphing reversed drones. Another interesting thing about Monkey Formula is its artwork - each individual record has had its cover generated by a computerised randomization process to ensure that no two editions of the album are alike.
