Thomas Bullock — aka Tom Of England — finally emerges from his slew of transatlantic extracurriculars with Tonka Hi-Fi, Wicked Sound System and Rub n Tug to strike out on his own. Sex Monk Blues synthesises — or rather, strings together with makeshift means — the collective influences of early NYC DIY à la Suicide and Arthur Russell with the bullish belligerence of Throbbing Gristle and mangled machismo of DAF. Imagine a babbling drunkard fashioning music from half-remembered tunes heard whilst being ejected from a club premises. In other words, his debut is downright wacky pseudo-electro revelry, spasmodic to the hilt, yet eerily serene when the fancy takes it.
