The transformation of Angel Olsen may well appear sudden to most. Gone is the beehive-coiffed blueswoman of Burn Your Fire for No Witness and My Woman, guitarist and backing singer to any number of alternative country ramblers; this Olsen emerges swan-like from the bottom of a lake, mostly ditching weeping guitars for resplendent synth orchestration. Look closer; you’ll find Olsen’s world-weary rasp injected with fire and venom.
