Tindersticks ring in a dozen studio LPs with No Treasure But Hope. This is a typically ornate record from the band, one that bears hallmarks of leader Stuart Staples’ increasing amount of work in the field of film composition. This isn’t to say that he’s gone all John Williams - this is still a set of tender indie ballads from the Nottingham group - but there’s a widescreen grandiosity to songs like ‘Pinky In The Daylight’ which recalls Richard Hawley … or do we mean Scott Walker? The odder songs of No Treasure But Hope (‘For The Beauty’, ‘See My Girls’) certainly have shades of the late, great avant-gardener about them.
