Given that she grew up in a family of shamans, it’s perhaps unsurprising that PYUR (Sophie Schnell) makes music of such strength and power. On Oratorio For The Underworld we find the Berlin-based artist serving up a collection of Gothic rhythm tracks, cerebral ambiences and writhing noise abstractions. Aided by cellist Teresa Alvarez and violinist Juan Zalba Fuentes, Schnell has delivered a liminal record that references Ziur, Nurse With Wound, Sunn O))) and Arca at various points.
