Aside from having one of the best titles of any record released this year, Datassette’s Kestrel Manoeuvres In The Dark is also a cracking set of contemporary Braindance variations. Tracks like ‘Stoatle Excelsior’ and ‘Kestrel Manoeuvres In The Dark’ whizz around the speakers with all the vital invention of a golden-age Rephlex release, their tight four-to-the-floor grooves anchoring machine-malfunction synth work. ‘Polyhedron Navigator’ is an endlessly-morphing IDM delight, one that will please fans of Bjarki’s bbbbbb label. The baroque, Lorenzo Senni-esque arpeggios of ‘To The Scullery!’ make up the fourth track of this enormously enjoyable EP. Out, as one might expect, on the irrepressible Central Processing Unit.
