‘Balanced’ and ‘Leisure’, the two tracks of Cop Envy’s new EP, are divergent tunes with a shared aesthetic. ‘Balanced’ oscillates between breakbeats and pockets of space in a manner that recalls the sparse productions of Airhead. Meanwhile ‘Leisure’ is rather more to the point, a bass-led techno jam that would be a good fit for Batu’s Timedance imprint. While their styles might be rather different, the evocative synth tones and general air of futurism that runs through both tunes here makes them a good fit for each other on this Cry Baby Records release.
