The epic permeates all Xylouris White do. Previous instalments on their sonic odyssey, evinced in their previous far-flung trilogy — Goats, Black Peak and Mother — sought the epic in the everyday, melding George Xylouris’ traditional laouto-lead noodling with Dirty Three member Jim White’s free-jazz drumming accompaniment. The cycle now ended, it’s left to begin again with The Sisypheans on Drag City. The balance of tradition and modernity plays out in the two players’ ability to complement each other without overshadowing, making their never-ending story cycle worth experiencing.
