Continuing the band's interest in experimenting with the post-punk song, No Sister's upcoming release is an acknowledgement of an elemental, unavoidable creative facet: influence. While Tiarney Miekus sings Burning News, she took influence from band member Mino Peric's childhood experience of clearing out an old, family house in suburban Tokyo. When Mino's family lit a backyard bonfire, burning newspaper floated into the sky, covering the neighbourhood in small black specks. Musically and aesthetically, the song was especially influenced by Phil Collins 'In The Air Tonight' and the Prophet 5 synthesiser, alongside a desire, at the song's finale, to attempt to capture a moment of overwhelming, largely cinematic awe. No Sisters' new EP draws from a variety of influences including writers Sheila Heti and Anne Boyer, and musicians ranging from David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Prince and other 80s fascinations - the band endeavor to expand their post-punk sound to include influences from both sides of the Atlantic (and Pacific). Influence was recorded by John Lee and Pat Telfer at Phaedra Studios (Beaches, Love of Diagrams, Lost Animal, Stonefield), mixed by Mino Peric and mastered by David Walker at Stepford Audio.
