Over the past year Ceephax Acid Crew (Andy Jenkinson) has put out a run of Acid Cask EPs through the WeMe imprint. These EPs have invited us into a world of nocturnal club traxx and unsettling, almost spooky rave aesthetics. Now, dropped concurrently with the third Acid Cask volume we have the trio of EPs collected on one nifty cassette.

As anyone who has heard the individual Acid Cask volumes (or, indeed, any of Ceephax’s other releases) can attest, these tunes opt for a distinctly 303s-to-the-front aesthetic. However, Jenkinson manages to find variation within this formula. Though cuts like ‘Acid Flyover’ and ‘Acid Chrome Part II’ have the basslines burbling and sputtering at the front of the mix, the 303 is more buried and textural on the likes of ‘Slimepit’. Mind you, this isn’t to say that ‘Slimepit’ is a more abstract track than the others - indeed, the slamming techno drums make this one of the hardest cuts on Acid Cask.

While classic acid house and techno tracks make up the bulk of Acid Cask’s tracklist there are also moments here in which Ceephax shows his range. ‘Nuketurn’ and ‘Kaitak’ touch on Basic Channel’s sombre dub-techno; ‘Quested’ has an Italo-Disco thing going on in the upper synth ranges; ‘Lockhart’ and ‘Muster Station’ veer close to the big-room vibes of Ostgut Ton.
