The wizened archivists at Finders Keepers Records blow the dust from a far-out and freaky fuzz, folk ’n’ funk grail from the cobwebbed catacombs of rock ’n’ roll history. Born in Ankara in 1940, Durul Gence made his name drumming with many an ill-fated group across Turkey and beyond, including Istanbul Express and Asia Minor Mission, also backing a host of jazz royalty (Sonny Sharrock, Herbie Mann.) Black Cat sees Gence in full composer mode, scratching at garage rock’s ankles like the deviant that he is.
