Mike Cooper’s Rayon Hula LP gets remastered, re-edited and reissued to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of its release. Cooper’s aim for Rayon Hula was to create a 21st Century version of the 50’s/60’s Exotica style, possibly to be named Hawaiian Futurism. Whatever you call it, this is a hallucinatory delight of a record that combines Exotica tropes - slide guitars, woozy grooves - with dubwise production, phasing loops and found sounds. It makes for an uncanny listening experience that is like a dream-state take on Haruomi Hosono’s tropicalia.
