Akoko Ajeji, the title of Chris Korda’s new LP, translates from Yoruba as ‘strange time’. The phrase is an apt description of this record, a set of propulsive and unique beat pieces. The tracks on Akoko Ajeji are composed entirely of complex polyrhythms - while drums may be in 4/4, organs in 5/4, synths in 7/4 and so on - and the ultimate effect is trance-like, fourth world and psychedelic. Imagine ESG rendered by Karen Gwyer and then spun out by My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts-era Eno.
