Turkish sound artist Anadol tries something a little different on her third LP Uzun Havalar. On this record we find the one born Gözen Atila reinterpreting Middle Eastern folk songs known as ‘uzun hava’. However, this isn’t to say that Anadol has abandoned the chic, cinematic kosmische-pop sound of previous records like Hatıralar. Indeed, working with older material allows Anadol to take her synth stylings to intriguing new places. Farah, John Maus and Ariel Pink all spring to mind when listening to the grand, kitschy Uzun Havalar.
