1962’s Listen, Move And Dance collected music written by pioneering electronic composer Daphne Oram and arranger Vera Gray for a BBC television programme which intended to encourage children to dance. You would think that Gray’s stately reimaginings of Shostakovich and Bartok would make for quite a contrast with Oram’s bold synthesiser work, but in fact the pair find common ground here to produce an engaging and really rather groundbreaking set. Listen, Move And Dance is reissued now, several decades after its original release, by Fantome Phonographique.
