The Quiet Temple gear up for their eponymous debut LP (also out via Wichita) with this hyper-limited release. This group is an intriguing proposition, with core figures Rich Machin and Duke Garwood bolstered by a revolving cast of players that includes Thighpaulsandra and members of Spiritualized. There is certainly a real sense of creative freedom to their psychedelic, Krautrock-indebted take on free jazz. Both ‘The Last Opium Den (On Earth)’ (which will feature on the album) and ‘Chicago’ (which won’t) have a moody energy similar to groups like Free Nelson Mandoomjazz and The Comet Is Coming. This EP ends with a real treat in the form of James Leyland Kirby’s washed-out ambient remix of ‘Chicago’.
