Forest Drive West is next up in the Whities Blue series that has previously fronted club tackle from the likes of Tessela, Lanark Artefax and BFTT. For Blue 05 we find the one born Joe Baker imagining (or perhaps merely observing?) 2019 as ‘a futuristic society where corporations have replaced countries’. This sense of Blade Runner-style techno-dystopia certainly pervades both ‘Other’ and ‘Time’, though this music is much denser and more nuanced than your classic post-Vangelis electronics workout. Indeed, both of these tracks are masterclasses in the soundsystem techno style currently being disseminated by artists like Ploy, Bruce and Forest Drive West himself. Dubwise, eerie and full of motion.
