With Yage 2019 the seminal Future Sound of London look to the past in order to create the present. Back in 1996 the FSoL released their Dead Cities LP, and one of that record’s most enduring cuts has proven to be ‘Yage’. ‘Yage’ is a track that contains multitudes, a journey through fourth-world rave sounds and psychedelic electronic utopias. As such, it’s no surprise that the FSoL have managed to create a whole album’s-worth of material from the core of that one track. Yage 2019 masterfully spins out the original into forty-plus-minutes of breakbeats, acid rhythms, distorted guitars, peyote-haze soundscapes and new-age ecstasies. UNKLE and Massive Attack are hinted at, but really Yage 2019 is the sort of album that only The Future Sound of London could make.
