Newcomer Olaf Branch turns in a set of potent, dubwise Balearic productions on the Borealis EP. The tracks here each lean heavily into an updated version of The Orb’s ambient house sound, pushing this usually positive style into a more ambiguous space. As a result, Borealis comes out sounding not unlike the recent releases from D. Tiffany and NAP’s Ambien Baby project. Suzanne Kraft rounds out Borealis with a punchy nu-beat rework of opening cut ‘Nur Yawa’.
