Three years on from his previous LP System, Datach’i (Joseph Fraioli) returns to Venetian Snares’ Timesig imprint with new full-length Bones. Bones continues the sonic transition that Datach’i began on System. Compared to the frenzied breakcore of his early work, this music is far calmer - there is still great attention to detail in the album’s production, but these tracks generally coast rather than glitch. Cuts like ‘Rockledge 3A’ even come close to the warm house-tronica sounds of artists like Apparat and Lone. While there are still busy moments here - check ‘Wand’ - Bones is by and large a nuanced and welcoming record from a producer who continues to surprise us so many years into his career.
