Astride twin steeds named ‘remix album’ and ‘reimagined tribute’, designer/musician Tommy Perman’s intrepid rework of Modern Studies’ 2018 smash Welcome Strangers reinterprets the indie folk numbers therein as blissful ambient meditations in the vein of Brian Eno, Ahnnu and kosmische music. Fittingly entitled Emergent Slow Arcs, Tommy Perman’s magic shines through in the record’s uncanny strangeness, vibing off the originals behind a great curtain, teaching his gorgeous amalgam to dance all by itself.
