The material on Dekmantel’s new Scores EP stems from their collaboration with the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision and the EYE Filmmuseum. Four artists were invited to write new soundtracks for films from the vaults of both institutions, and their music was later presented at Dekmantel’s 2018 festival. Jordan Gcz turned in a hallucinatory combination of Bitches Brew-esque jazz and delay-drenched drones; upsammy offered a typically vivid piece of fourth world electronics; Suzanne Kraft combined musique concrete and new age ambiences; and Parrish Smith came close to Karlheinz Stockhausen. All four pieces are now collected on this excellent record.
