Forged from a storied history of diverse cultural exchange, and outlawed during the 1960s due to communist and pro-independence alignments, maloya is a genre native to the French island of La Réunion, located east of Madagascar and southwest of Mauritius. With Digital Kabar, InFiné documents the genre’s resurgence during the 1980s and ‘90s, when maloya first became electrified by the presence of rap, reggae and, most notably, electronic music.
