Alex Paterson and Paul Conboy may be known for making club-ready fare - Paterson in The Orb, Conboy with Bomb The Bass - but when the pair are in Chocolate Hills mode things calm down a little. Save for the occasional downtempo trip-hop beat there’s not much in the way of percussion to be found on the duo’s debut LP A Pail Of Air. Instead they harness the hazy textural work of The Orb and extrapolate that out over seven pieces of quixotic, playful ambient music. A little Great British strangeness - Lewis Carroll-style psychedelia, Ghost Box hauntology - comes through on tracks like ‘Reboot’.
