Delroy Edwards first rocked up on Apron Records back in 2013 for a collaborative EP with label boss FunkinEven. A few years older and wiser, Edwards now returns to Apron with a set of solo productions. The Los Angeles native sticks to his guns on Dubonnet to turn in a selection of buoyant lo-fi house jams. Classic Chicago sounds are still alive and well in Edwards’ aesthetic - tracks such as ‘Live And Let Live’ and ‘Fat Dynamics’ could pass for golden-age Frankie Knuckles (R.I.P.) if they weren’t scuffed up by tape distortion. There’s also a pleasing helping of electro-funk in the juicy grooves of Dubonnet’s midsection.
