Ellen Arkbro is not an artist who beats around the bush. Back in 2017 the Stockholm-based composer debuted with For Organ And Brass, an LP that she had composed … for organ and brass. Two years on and she returns with CHORDS, a record that consists of the tracks ‘CHORDS for organ’ and ‘CHORDS for guitar’. Both feature nothing more than a series of - you guessed it - chords played on the respective instruments. The sustained sound of the organ allows you to get lost in its purring drones, while the broken chords on the guitar have a more quicksilver feel to them. Either way, both entries on CHORDS are engagingly to-the-point in a manner that recalls Sarah Davachi.
