Record collector and DJ Ernesto Chahoud gathers a selection of his favourite Ethiopian singles for this excellent new compilation. Taitu (Soul-Fuelled Stompers From 1960s-1970s Ethiopia) presents tunes from the Addis Abada scene of the 60’s and 70’s, a time when influences from the U.S.A. - funk, soul, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll - fused with native styles to create exciting new sounds. For a fair few of these tunes Taitu constitutes their first pressing to vinyl. Mulatu Astatke and Alemayehu Eshete (‘the Ethiopian Elvis’) are among the tracklist.
