John Daly’s first release of 2019 is another fine example of the Irish producer’s ebullient house style. Everything on the Safe EP is crammed with melody, groove and attitude, but the way they go about their business varies slightly. Opener ‘What If’ is a woozy delight in the vein of DJ Seinfeld; Safe’s title-track comes across like a foggy rave memory, the buoyant bassline and sweat-drenched 909s slipping into a reverie of reverb; ‘Moving On’ is the leanest and toughest cut, a hard-wired jack track in classic Chicago style; and Safe’s chirpy closer ‘For The Sake’ puts us back roughly where we started.
