Twerps member J. McFarlane steps out with Ta Da, the debut LP from her de-facto solo project/trio J. McFarlane Reality Guest. This is a charming record that blends lo-fi songwriting ala Mac Demarco, twee-punk instrumentation and BBC Radiophonic Workshop-style strangeness. At times Ta Da inhabits a world similar to that of McFarlane’s fellow Night School signee Ela Orleans, at others it nods to the bedroom experiments of Arthur Russell.
