Soul Jazz Records have been at the crates again, and the spoils this time are something very classy indeed. Originally released to small fanfare in 1976 and hence regarded as a unique voice in spiritual jazz (as well as a collector’s item nowadays), flautist Lloyd McNeill’s Treasures mines a Brazilian and Latin-inflected vein of jazz, liable to magnificent flights of fancy in McNeill’s contemplative playing, yet thoroughly grounded by a rock solid backing band.
