Detroit’s Filthiest by name, Detroit’s filthiest by nature. This latest EP from Julian Shamou’s project is the sort of nasty electro-funk that the Motor City does better than anywhere else. Private Stock kicks off with ‘Dolemite’, a track that sounds like Dam-Funk reimagined by Drexciya (or should that be the other way around?). Other A-side ‘Trauma’ is a snappy bleep-electro delight. Shamou introduces some mellower synth tones on the two B-side numbers, though the bite in the grooves of ‘The Chase Scene’ and ‘Deuce & A Quarter’ means that Detroit’s Filthiest still lives up to his name.
