After impressing with the ‘Gloaming’ single back at the start of 2019, Luke Sutherland’s Rev Magnetic drop their debut LP Versus Universe through Rock Action. ‘Gloaming’ appears here along with ten other pieces of forward-looking avant-pop. While much of Versus Universe contains a rock heft that is fitting for a record released on a label owned by Mogwai, there is also the kind of nuanced writing that one associates more with contemporary R ‘n’ B acts like Perfume Genius.
