New Clinic! The first LP in six years from the Liverpudlian group takes its title from a 1970’s variety show that was compered by the notorious Bernard Manning. In its own warped way, a programme like Wheeltappers And Shunters provides a fine route into Clinic’s world. When funnelled through their fusion of lounge-lizard post-punk (think Fat White Family) and oddball UK post-psych (think Pram), the tensions held in a cultural relic like Wheeltappers And Shunters allow Clinic to examine British society, culture and social mores with a wry smile.
