The Norwegian-Mexican artist expands her unique brand of contemporary psychedelia ever further on Both Lines Will Be Blue. Whereas much of Villain’s previous output had seen her shaping songs out of her ambient dreamscapes, Both Lines WIll Be Blue casts off into pure sound. This proves to be an inspired move - it allows Villain to luxuriate in the sensuous soundscapes she creates while also experiment with musique concrete and avant-garde techniques. A flute sometimes appears to take the place of a vocalist, something which further adds to the woozy beauty of this album. Both Lines Will Be Blue will appeal to fans of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and Villain’s former collaborator Jenny Hval.
