HiiDE, the debut LP from BABii, comes with co-production credits from On-U-Sound’s Adrian Sherwood. However, HiiDE is not the dubwise mind-bender one might expect from an album with Sherwood’s involvement. Instead this is a set of hyper-real contemporary synth-pop that draws influence from both the PC Music school and artists like FKA Twigs. BABii, a singer at once coy and slightly sinister, remains a strangely magnetic presence at the centre of HiiDE.
