Turning Dragon is the fourth LP from Warp-signed English electronic musician Clark and demonstrates a ruthless blend of IDM, techno, industrial and ambient. Here, Clark explores imperfect, more muscular territory than his previous works, with the frenzied, pneumatic hammer blows of opener ‘New Year Storm’ and the brutal, micro-sampled ‘Truncation Horn’. More controlled is ‘Ache Of The North’ which develops into beautiful, acid-laced ambient piece followed by similarly atmospheric ‘Mercy Sins’. Finally, ‘Penultimate Persian’ is an air raid of hammering beats and electrical distortion that perfectly wraps up a weighty LP that heavily works both body and mind.
