After the release of 2016’s excellent Jörð record, London-based composer Oliver Barrett let his Petrels project take a back seat to keep the beast of complacency at bay. That he should return three years later with The Dusk Loom is very telling; in fact, it marks a hero’s return, right down to its ethereal, baroque sonics full of chirping crows, ghostly choirs, and a majestic exuberance for which Barrett has become known. If William Blake, cosmological leanings and ancient-modern neoclassical rank high among your ‘things’, look no further.
