David Allred’s new LP The Cell is intended as a companion piece to last year’s The Transition (also Erased Tapes). As it was with the previous record, The Cell is another set of widescreen chamber pop and avant-song from the frequent Peter Broderick collaborator. Using a combination of piano, strings and effects manipulation Allred is able to create spacious soundscapes that draw equally from serpentwithfeet, Nils Frahm and the production of Stephen Street. Allred’s poised, quietly powerful voice anchors The Cell throughout.
