After turning a few heads with his quirky 2017 EP Biotope Trax (also released through DJ Slyngshot’s Yappin Records), the intriguing DJ Neewt returns with a new triple-threat in the form of Mud Voices. These numbers are psychedelic house jams, ones that draw as much from cosmic disco and the dubby delights of DJ Sotofett as they do from acid, freakbeat or anything like that. ‘Hymn’ and ‘Mud Voices’, the two Neewt solo productions, foreground harmonious 303s while lacing the beats with a dash of Andrew Weatherall-style trippiness. The other entry here, ‘Pearls For Knives’, sees Slyngshot getting amongst things and helping to produce a rhythm-heavy workout ala Ploy’s ‘Intrigued By The Drum’.
