Originally released in 1994, Tortoise is the debut album from the experimental post-rock group of the same name. Having formed in 1990, it took them four years to piece together the ten tracks that composed their debut album, and 12 years on it still continues to astound. Built from a wealth of percussive instruments and with a focus on long form instrumental rooted sounds that melt together to form a thick sounding world that was more otherworldly than the other sounds emerging in the US at the time. Crunchy ambient suits and fuzzy guitar leads place the LP as a hidden gem in the alternative indie underground, Tortoise in many ways picked up the baton laid down by Slint when they finished Spiderland and now with this fully remastered edition this LP can begin to gain the wide spread acclaim it so richly deserves. Legendary gear.
