Musician Liz Harris doesn’t deal in clarity, masking each naked idea behind wilfully obscure recording techniques or oblique (yet, one inexplicably feels, curiously personal) lyricism. Momentarily stepping away from her main output project Grouper, her sprawling debut under her Nivhek moniker serves to drape yet another layer over her enigmatic craft. Buried in these vast dreamscapes, ‘After its own death’ and ‘Walking in a spiral towards the house’, are simultaneously unnerving and comforting presences; abyssal drones and homely piano tinkering.
