Really interesting record here. Kolida Babo are a Greek duo who anchor their practise around the sounds of the duduk, an Armenian woodwind instrument. The duduk’s reedy melodies are augmented by drones, electronics and various post-production techniques to create this hugely varied record. At various points Kolida Babo’s eponymous LP recalls spiritual jazz, Thomas Fehlmann’s synthesiser improvisations and Eno & Cage’s fourth world experiments. The Bug and Kassem Mosse are both known to be Kolida Babo fans. Released on MIC (Laps, Lord Tusk).
