Jan Jelinek’s Faitiche imprint releases Signals Bulletin, a collaborative record between the label boss and Japanese composer and organist Asuna. Asuna’s highly original method of organ playing involves sticking down clusters of keys with strips of tape, something that creates staggering walls of sound. Jelinek smartly uses his looping skills to conjure pulsating rhythmic backbones for Asuna’s monolithic drones. As such Signals Bulletin comes off like a beatific version of fourth world music, one as imagined by Arvo Pärt.
