With 2015’s Time Foundation firmly behind him, Spanish producer Psyk — aka Manuel Anós — develops his dark arts techno into the starkly minimal A Moment Before. Maturity for Psyk comes in the form of breathing space for his beats and maximum legroom for those 4/4s, but the results are nothing short of an intense, non-stop ride. The album quickly descend into the abyss by the end of opener ‘Untitled’, as ‘A Moment Before’ chases down a beat as a cop pursues its perp. ‘Panic Attack’ sounds like just that, but ‘Artemis’ comes as the biggest surprise of all: a bona fide banger of 8-bit bliss.
